Waiting it out with Xangsane

PRE
Category 4 Hurricane Xangsane (Milenyo in local terms) hit the Metro streets with full intensity around 11:00Am Ph Time, 230kph (143 mph) . Frij with a body of excellent storm forecasting ability, decided that it was better off sleeping than trudging a rainy morning to go to work, indeed it paid off. A 10Am SMS to an officemate proved no work was declared at around 9:30Am (imagine the people who went to work just to be notified they aren't needed, then to be stranded in the middle of the storm, bastards).

Frij on the otherhand was in the safety of his house, undaunted by the raging storm just behind those brick walls. Occassionally one can hear the glorious laughter of kids dancing in the rain followed by a superfluous tearing of roofs from a nearby house. The storm would have been perfect if not for the absence of lightning and thunder.

By noon, it was already a 2 feet flow outside. For a moment that had him worried, the house was only a mere 3 feet above the street and having a dirty mop up was not a good "natural" idea. He was already debating which things would be brought upstairs, definitely the PC and TV is first on the list. Luckily, undesirable fluid entry did not occur. Back to sleep.

The flood receded by 4Pm in reference to the narration by his kids who were curiously watching, for the first time, the splendid destructive force of liquid nature. The toddlers (3.5 and 2 years) were atleast smart enough to distinguish that brown flowing water is related to fecal matter and thus skinny dipping is unneccessary. There was no power which can be easily concluded by broken or uprooted electric/phone posts, however, approximation on how many is all guesswork. They dined the old fashioned way, a candle lit dinner. Gladly the sleeping atmosphere was cozy enough to make the little ones behave, or was it the few hints of Sadako (The Ring) which gave them the idea of behaving?

POST
Today, Frij was contemplating whether to go to work but since his wife and kids were off to his in-laws, dropping by the office was inevitable. Besides, he was in a good mood.

The expressway was literally littered with uprooted trees, electric posts and fallen billboards. Street cleaners everywhere, a crane and a bulldozer was pushing aside a humonguous ancient tree in front of the US embassy to give way to traffic. Surprisingly, although power was not yet restored, it was business as usual. Though Frij wonders how one resolves this:

Another tropical storm passed...Frij eagerly waits for the next free break.

Oh The Pain!!

It was bowling again last night for Frij, its been 10 months since his last game and much to his surprise he did well even if he and his cohorts only had time for a two game practice during lunch. Though the pain was unberable all throughout the actual game (A broken rule: Never practice a few hours prior to the event itself! That time is needed for relaxation and mental preparation) that he had to shift to a lighter 9 lbs ball to keep it steady. He shifted back to his regular 11 lbs ball after the arm was numb enough to ignore the ache.

Although he did well on the game itself, he was no where near his team mates in terms of scoring, guys averaging 160 - 170, whoah! Hopefully the next match would be fruitful.

He liked the uniform, it was all black diffrentiated only by the collar color for team grouping plus they provided towels! All that was left out was some chick going around for an arm massage every now and then and it would have been great.

His team composition was actually comical, he got teamed up with 4 Bank, 2 Insurance, 1 Internal Revenue guys and 1 Airline lady. So if you've got a good sense of humor, it all ends up with one or all of them leaving the country rich, pensioned and clean. LOL

Well as all story goes there is a worse part and that was reaching the comfort of his bed at 12:30Am and required to make it back to work at before 8:00Am to join a chorale for the company president's birthday. Ouch! Oh but it was so worth it...

On past and future
Belated Happy 2nd Birthday kiddo! Glad you liked the birthday cake

Happy Birthday tomorrow Professor Shrink, just in case Frij forgets to actually greet his sister.

Keeping the Faith alive

Frij has been hearing True Faith all over the radio again. It was during his college days since he last saw the band perform. In all honesty, Frij lost faith after the band's series of mishaps, (a band is no longer a band when you start losing members - from Frij's POV) but all is looking good now. Medwin Marfil is still pure talent and though new members are on board they've managed to keep the sound "True Faith" all these years.

To Medwin, in case you ever read this, forgive Frij for losing some faith. Frij will get back to his collectibles including the postcards your band so eagerly give.

Have Faith
Words: Medwin Marfil
Music: Kenneth Ilagan

It would take a while before you'd understand
That hurtin' you wasn't part of the plan
And if you'd believe you'd fear it again
That I'd go back to my old self in the end

Please take me now and give me a chance
I knew the steps before I did the dance

So please believe in me
Have faith in the one you love
So please believe in me
Have faith in the one you love
Have faith in the one you love

Most things change but some they never do
This love remains a big part of us two
I'd break my heart if there'd come a day
That we'd cease to live together this way

I'm humbled baby please close the door
I'm a fallen angel kneeling on the floor
